SOMERLYN R. OXENDINE

Somerlyn Oxendine is an associate in the St. Petersburg office. Prior to joining Thompson Miller, she worked at another civil defense firm and focused on premises liability and automobile negligence matters. Ms. Oxendine began her legal career as an Assistant Public Defender in the Ninth and Sixth Judicial Circuits where she defended 120 to 180 clients at a time. She conducted over a dozen jury trials and argued non-jury trials, Motions to Suppress, and Motions to Dismiss.

Ms. Oxendine graduated from Notre Dame Law School in 2021. As a law student, she gained experience through internships with the Federal Public Defender for the Middle District of Florida and the Colorado State Public Defender, and externships with Indiana Legal Services and the National Immigrant Justice Center. Additionally, she performed research for the Times Up Legal Defense Fund and volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate. Prior to law school, she graduated with honors from the University of Florida in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and minors in Philosophy, History, and Communication Studies. She then served as an AmeriCorps member in New Hampshire for the year preceding law school.

Outside of practicing law, Ms. Oxendine is a member of the St. Petersburg Bar Association, the Junior League of St. Petersburg, and Lawyers for Literacy. She enjoys taking walks and spending time with her friends and family.
